Two children performing the heat and temperature experiment

Heat and Temperature

Understand the difference between heat and temperature and distinguish between materials that conduct heat well (thermal conductors) and those which conduct heat poorly (thermal insulators).

For scientists aged 8-12.

In this activity, students will discover that certain materials conduct heat better than others through the observation that ice cubes melt at a higher rate on metal plates than on plastic ones. They will also learn that heat flows from warmer objects to colder ones to reach a thermal equilibrium.
